How many chapters a day?
The Bible has 1,189 chapters. Divide by the days you have.
| Finish in | Chapters a day | Minutes a day |
|---|---|---|
| 90 days | 13.2 | about 37 |
| 100 days | 11.9 | about 33 |
| 4 months | 9.9 | about 27 |
| 6 months | 6.5 | about 18 |
| 1 year | 3.3 | about 9 |
Minutes are an average at 230 words a minute, the pace of a typical adult reading silently. Chapters vary a lot in length: Psalm 117 has two verses and Psalm 119 has 176.

Choosing a pace
Most one-year plans ask for three or four chapters a day, about ten minutes. That is gentle enough to keep for a year and slow enough to stop and think. A hundred days asks for half an hour, and in return you hear the Bible as one story: the promise to Abraham and its fulfilment are weeks apart instead of months.
If you are not sure, start with the faster plan and give yourself room. A 100 day plan finished in 120 days still covers the whole Bible in four months. The today page follows a 100 day schedule, and the printed chart works at any speed, because you tick days, not dates.
Reading faster than about 15 chapters a day (under 80 days) turns most days into an hour or more. People do it, often on a retreat or a long holiday, but for most it is hard to keep up alongside work and family.
